Superintendent's Letter - Monday, September 27, 2021

 September 27, 2021

What a great week to be a Burton Panther!!!

We are shaping the Future of Burton Independent School District!!!

The Burton Independent School District Board of Trustees unanimously approved a $43,867,471 bond referendum to be included in the November 2021 election. It has been 13 years since the last investment in Burton ISD.

During a robust and interactive 18-month process, the BISD Board of Trustees toured facilities, analyzed the district’s demographic trends, financial position and instructional goals, and evaluated previous bond projects and current facility needs. A BISD Facility Planning Committee, a special task force made up of community members from across the district, including parents, community leaders and business representatives met to provide input on which Master Facility Plan projects to include in the bond proposal.

The most significant bond projects will address:
● Safety and Security Updates
● Burton High School Expansion
● Burton Junior High Expansion

● Band Hall/

Fine Arts

● Cafeteria and Kitchen Renovation
● Athletics Facilities

If voters pass the bond in November, Burton ISD taxpayers will see an approximate $36 per month increase in property taxes for an average home valued at $200,000. Property owners that are 65 years of age and older taxes will not be impacted over their frozen amount if they have filed for and received a Homestead Exemption with the Washington County Appraisal District.

Burton ISD will continue to provide factual voter education through all available channels to ensure that all voters have information about the 2021 bond. Look for information in emails, mail, signs, social media, the district website, and the bond website.

Election Day for the Burton ISD Bond is Tuesday, November 2, 2021. Register to vote by October 4, 2021.

The pride of the Burton Panthers is embedded in all of us whether we are a student, an alumni, a community member, a staff member and employee, a parent, board member and/or a proud supporter and in many cases all of the above. We love our Panthers and like to think that the culture we are providing in educating our students is a reason why parents want their children to attend Burton ISD. We value our school district and always try to do what is in the best interest of students. We are prepared to Dream Big, Sparkle More, and Shine Bright as the Future is Now for the Burton Panthers!!! Have a blessed week and GO BIG RED!

Burton Independent School District is growing. Our elementary school has increased enrollment by more than 20% over the last five years. The elementary building is at 94% functional capacity, with only 19 seats remaining creating the necessity to expand into the junior high building and push for junior high to move into secondary facilities.

Elementary Growth

Burton High School is one of the main projects that will be addressed in the 2021 bond proposal. Check out what BHS will receive if the bond proposal is approved by voters.
