KWHI Burton ISD Radio Report May 25, 2015

Here’s to a Happy Memorial Day and wishing an even happier start of the final week in the 2014-2015 school year for the Burton Independent School District!

I would like to start by offering a huge Congratulations to our graduating Senior Class of 2015. Best of luck on the beginning of this new chapter in your lives. I have no doubt this group of students will carry the pride of Burton Schools with them in all of their future endeavors. These students received $324,153.50 in scholarships towards continuing post-secondary education, along with numerous academic and athletic awards. Absolutely fabulous!

Not only do our students shine academically, but they bring home record-setting athletic accomplishments. The Burton Lady Panthers tied for the Class 1A Team Champions at this year’s State Track Meet in Austin and also earned all district softball selection honors. So proud of all of our students that participate in school activities.

This week will be busy as we wind down towards graduation, which is scheduled for 8:00 on Friday, May 29th at Panther Stadium. Please come out to honor our Seniors as they journey into the world beyond high school!

Also, this week Kindergarten Commencement is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27th with Elementary awards to follow. Thursday, May 28th and Friday, May 29th are early release days for all students.

Finally, I would like to extend a warm thank you for all they have done for Burton Schools to Mr. Charles Hodde and Mrs. Anna Breddin who both will be retiring this year. Enjoy yourselves!!!

I hope the students, staff, and parents of Burton Independent School District all have a great summer!!!

KWHI Burton ISD Radio Report May, 4, 2015

Welcome May from Burton Independent School District!

High school students recently competed in the Regional UIL Academic Meet in Literary Criticism. The team made up of Sophia Layman, Wesley Fehrle, and Maci Hohlt placed 5th out of 9 teams and Sophia’s 3rd place allows her to advance on to the State Meet in Austin. Congratulations students!

Burton High School Seniors participated in the Industry Day Tours this past week to Del Sol Food Company, Scott & White Hospital, RR Donnelley, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. They were also provided information on Blinn College training programs as part of a Workforce Maximization Initiative. We appreciate these businesses allowing our students the opportunity to connect with local industry. Thanks students for representing our school so well.

In conjunction with a statewide literacy initiative, Ms. Beach’s 3rd grade class at Burton Elementary along with tens of thousands of students and families across Texas participated in the reading of one book at one time. Head coach Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys provided a video-taped reading of the first chapter to kick off the Texas Reads One Book! program. Students are reading The World According to Humphrey by Betty Birney. What a fun way to support and promote reading!

Great to see Panther Pride continue this spring in softball, baseball, track, and our ag programs. Keep up the good work!

Local voting place is at the Burton High School on Saturday, May 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Good luck candidates.

Hope everyone is enjoying this fabulous weather. Have a good week!
