Welcome May from Burton Independent School District!
High school students recently competed in the Regional UIL Academic Meet in Literary Criticism. The team made up of Sophia Layman, Wesley Fehrle, and Maci Hohlt placed 5th out of 9 teams and Sophia’s 3rd place allows her to advance on to the State Meet in Austin. Congratulations students!
Burton High School Seniors participated in the Industry Day Tours this past week to Del Sol Food Company, Scott & White Hospital, RR Donnelley, and Washington County Sheriff’s Office. They were also provided information on Blinn College training programs as part of a Workforce Maximization Initiative. We appreciate these businesses allowing our students the opportunity to connect with local industry. Thanks students for representing our school so well.
In conjunction with a statewide literacy initiative, Ms. Beach’s 3rd grade class at Burton Elementary along with tens of thousands of students and families across Texas participated in the reading of one book at one time. Head coach Jason Garrett of the Dallas Cowboys provided a video-taped reading of the first chapter to kick off the Texas Reads One Book! program. Students are reading The World According to Humphrey by Betty Birney. What a fun way to support and promote reading!
Great to see Panther Pride continue this spring in softball, baseball, track, and our ag programs. Keep up the good work!
Local voting place is at the Burton High School on Saturday, May 9 from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Good luck candidates.
Hope everyone is enjoying this fabulous weather. Have a good week!
