Happy Monday morning from Burton Independent School District-January
16, 2017
Hi! My name is Gracie Tuck. I am a 5th grader at
Burton Elementary School. Our school has a holiday today to observe Martin
Luther King, Jr. Day. Today we are paying
tribute to Dr. King’s principles, perhaps best known by his famous “I Have a
Dream” speech.
Americans are encouraged to observe this
day as not just a day off work but also a “Day of Service” to others with
civic, community, and service projects. What can you do today to be of service
to others?
We recognize Martin Luther King, Jr. as the chief spokesman for
nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement and his successful protest
against racial discrimination in federal and state law.
Congratulations to the
Burton High School, Junior High School, and Elementary Winners in the Houston
Livestock Show and Rodeo School Art Contest held a week ago Saturday at Round
Top-Carmine Elementary School. The winners advance to the HLSR for exhibit in
the Hayloft Art Gallery. Great job artists!
