Good morning from BURTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT - #TEAMBURTON!!!
Praying everyone is staying healthy and well!!! #TEAMBURTON is so very glad to welcome back our staff and students for the new year. Looking forward to great things to come in 2021!!!
2020 has definitely been one of the most challenging and different years I would say most educators have ever been faced with. I cannot express my deepest gratitude and acknowledgement enough to the Burton ISD staff, students, parents, families, the community, and the board of trustees for helping us keep as much continuity to learning as possible. The support we have received has been unending and very much appreciated. All of us working together is what makes #TEAMBURTON successful. Educating our students is and always will be a priority. The transitions to remote instruction, back to in-person/on-campus instruction, remote again briefly in the Fall, and now back to normal for 2021 went relatively smoothly because of the expertise and professionalism of our educators and the tireless effort of our students’ family support systems. We have planned and prepared to always do what is in best interest of students. We have embraced 2021 and are ready for some normalcy.
Adding a district nurse-Anna Preuss and an Assistant Principal-Jeremy Johnston to our administrative team which includes leadership experience from Melinda Fuchs- Elementary Principal, Matthew Wamble-Secondary Principal, Jason Hodde-Athletic Director, and Angela Rhodes-District Counselor has definitely been an accomplishment. Improved safety and security through facilities projects like additional fencing and secure access to the district, new office vestibules, cameras, protocols to address COVID-19, and Guardian training have helped us maintain an educational environment that allows us to focus on learning.
Generous and unanimous support from current and new board members with a $1000 one-time COVID-19 stipend for employees and allowing us time to address any COVID related illness, symptoms, or contact tracing quarantine situations has been appreciated. Healthy budget allocations helped us accommodate the need for extra cleaning and sanitizing and the purchase of extra supplies and materials. Our teachers and auxiliary staff to include maintenance, transportation, custodians, cafeteria, bus drivers, instructional aides, and office personnel have gone above and beyond to help with extra duties and assignments.
Trying to stay up with all of the changes this past year and what we see coming in the future will be a goal for the district in planning for 2021-2022. Making sure we are providing a continuous learning process for our students is a priority. Beginning the budget process, reviewing our current district academic standing where we will analyze student progress measures, ongoing discussions on how to accommodate increased enrollment and how our facilities are impacted by this growth, and most definitely continuing to keep our students, families, and staff well are areas to focus on for the next school year.
The decisions we made to participate in remote instruction were not easy. However, we felt at the time it was the most appropriate to address the health and welfare of our students, staff, and families. We are so fortunate to have our doors open and welcome our students back into the buildings.
As this COVID-19 virus continues to impact communities, it is our hopes that the health and safety procedures implemented will provide confidence that we are doing what is best for kids. Burton ISD is blessed to have so much support! We appreciate the patience and understanding we receive from our students, staff, families, and the community. A huge thank you to everyone who helps us be the best we can be - #TEAMBURTON!
