Superintendent's Letter - Monday, October 11, 20

 October 11, 2021

What a great week to be a Burton Panther!!!

We are shaping the Future of Burton Independent School District!!!

Burton ISD is growing! The 2021 Burton ISD Bond proposal creates more seats for elementary, junior high and high school students. The Bond proposal of $43,867,741 includes new construction and upgrades for the high school, junior high school, kitchen/cafeteria, fine arts, and athletics which will impact every student over their school career. The average age of Burton ISD facilities is 46 years and it has been 13 years since the last bond.

The elementary building is currently at 94% functional capacity. The proposed master plan would create additional seats on the elementary campus by expanding into the current junior high space. As this expansion occurs, junior high and high school would move where current athletic facilities are.

The Junior High School expansion adds 7 new classrooms with a new secure and dedicated entrance, office and conference space, and an enlarged Nurses’ Clinic.

The High School addition includes 8 new classrooms with modern learning features, two Science Labs, two Technology Labs, a new secure and dedicated entrance, and office and conference space.

This proposal includes a renovation of the 2009 Elementary Gym to a new acoustically designed Band Hall with practice and storage rooms and will also accommodate Theatre Arts.

The Kitchen and Cafeteria expansion will increase capacity, offer two serving lines, and could be designed to accommodate a culinary arts program.

Athletic upgrades include a new stadium with an 8-lane running track, a new competition gym that could be used as a multi-purpose facility, new lighting for baseball and softball fields, and upgrades to parking areas.

Building upgrades include new flooring, ceilings, windows, interior paint, interior and exterior doors, accessibility improvements, collaboration/learning corridors, and outdoor covered eating areas. Site-work and structural prep to address drainage will also be addressed.

The pride of the Burton Panthers is embedded in all of us whether we are a student, an alumni, a community member, a staff member and employee, a parent, board member and/or a proud supporter and in many cases all of the above. We love our Panthers and like to think that the culture we are providing in educating our students is a reason why parents want their children to attend Burton ISD. We value our school district and always try to do what is in the best interest of students. We are prepared to Dream Big, Sparkle More, and Shine Bright as the Future is Now for the Burton Panthers in 2021!!! Have a blessed week and GO BIG RED!
